After an exceptional stock market run in 2023 and 2024, you may be asking why your portfolio returns might not match those of the S&P 500, a question we often hear after such a run. In the simplest terms, it is because you are not invested in just the S&P 500. to ensure that your portfolio is properly diversified and matches your risk profile to help you remain invested for the long term.
A couple of other quick thoughts as we enter the new year:
- Make sure your beneficiaries (both primary and contingent) are correct.
- Make sure your wills and estate documents are up to date.
- Make sure we have your correct banking information on file for any distributions or contributions you plan to make.
- Remember, many of your brokerage 1099-B reports may not be released until late February.
